Meanwhile, Prime Minister Netanyahu announced today, that Highway 60 will now be known as “Tanach (Bible) Road.”
In his announcement, Netanyahu called the highway the “mother road between Jerusalem – the eternal city, and Hebron – the city of the fathers” and holds the “spirit of the Bible.”
“We have returned to the place from which we came,” he added. “To the path along which our ancestors walked. And therefore today the Government of Israel is giving Highway 60 the name it deserves – the Bible Road. This is not just a road paved with asphalt. This is a road paved with memory, with faith, with promise.
Highway 60 runs north from Be’er Sheva, all the way through Judea and Samaria, and up to the Galilee.
The doubling project includes widening Highway 60 to dual-carriageway, two-lane configuration along the section, upgrading road infrastructure, improving safety levels, and preparing infrastructure for public transportation. Upon completion, the project is expected to significantly increase road capacity, improve traffic flow, and provide a response to the ongoing growth in traffic volumes in the area.
Highway 60 constitutes one of the central and strategic north–south corridors in the State of Israel, serving thousands of drivers and residents daily.
