Jerusalem, 23 June, 2026 (TPS-IL) — At the annual conference on sustainable jet fuel development, the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure unveiled a new legislative outline and an updated regulation policy that will minimize gas emissions. Starting in 2028, Israel’s aviation industry will be required to integrate sustainable jet fuels (SAF) at a rate of 2%, with a gradual increase to a rate of 70% in 2053.

he global aviation industry is one of the largest consumers of energy and fuels on the market and is expected to grow, according to expert estimates, at a significant rate to more than 8 billion passengers by 2050.

The move is intended to adapt the Israeli aviation sector to global regulatory trends and European Union policy, thereby placing Israel at the forefront of the fight against the climate crisis alongside leading countries in the field of green aviation and environmental innovation. The legal memorandum was distributed on the government legislation website and will later be published for public participation.
