Jerusalem, 20 August, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Three families from the Syrian-Jewish community in the United States arrived in Israel Thursday from New York, immigrating together as part of a unique group immigration. The 17 immigrants — 11 children and six adults — will settle in Ra’anana.

Israel’s Immigration and Absorption Ministry described the move as unique, coming from the Aleppo community, a long-standing Jewish community with roots in Aleppo, Syria, whose descendants settled in the United States generations ago and have preserved their identity, tradition and communal institutions.

The families chose to immigrate together to maintain a sense of community and shared support network during their integration into Israeli life. Ra’anana was selected to help the families and children through the absorption process.

Additional families from the community are expected to arrive next week. The wave follows the immigration of Persian Jewish families from New York last week, who also chose to settle in Ra’anana.
